With its balanced acidity and freshness of palate, this wine is a perfect aperitif, to be enjoyed with appetisers or lighter seafood dishes. The wine’s fresh flavour profile is well matched with Asian salads and exotic spices.
Pale straw in colour, this wine shows lifted nashi pear and gala apple characters, with background topical guava and pineapple notes. The palate is lively and crisp with intense nashi pear, apple strudel and spicy flavours, complemented by a well-balanced acid structure.
Th e grapes were machine-harvested and gently bag-pressed into two fractions. The light-pressing fraction was oxidised before being blended back to the free-run juice. The blend was cool fermented with an aromatic yeast strain to capture the very distinctive regional and varietal characters.
The grapes came from our Rapaura soils found on the northern side of the Wairau Valley. The vines grow in young infertile soils, encompassing areas of silts overlaying old riverbed gravels. These soils tend to have a low nutrients status and require regular irrigation. Clonally the Pinot Gris is Mass Selected and grown on a mixture of rootstocks.
