This is a wine that can be enjoyed on its own, or with anything from fresh summer salads to a variety of grills. It will also pair well with Asian fusion or Thai dishes bursting with bright flavours, such as sticky hoisin pork ribs with a chilli caramel glaze served with a fresh mango and sesame salad.
This wine greets you with fresh, punchy aromas of pink grapefruit and capsicum. The palate is crisp and soft, with zesty citrus and passionfruit flavours which linger long on the finish. The palate shows great balance with a refreshing, crisp and lively acidity.
The grapes were picked early in the harvest to allow this wine to retain a distinctively vibrant style. Grapes were machine-harvested and gently pressed. The juice is lightly clarified before being fermented in a number of stainless steel tanks with a selection of yeast strains. Ferments were at cool temperatures to retain the very distinctive regional and varietal characters.
Fruit for this wine was predominantly grown in the Kaituna area located on the northern side of the Wairau Valley in an ancient riverbed. Over thousands of years, stones of all sizes were deposited by the Wairau River. Today our vines are planted among these stones, which we call sunstones.
The stones heat up during the day to assist ripening, but cool nights retain acidity, freshness and fruit intensity in the grapes. It is these sunstones and the unique stony riverbed soil structure, that are renowned for delivering Stoneleigh wines their quality and flavour.
